HBO’s upcoming ‘Watchmen’ series is going to rock… well at least in one way. Nine Inch Nails rockers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will help score the series. This marks the first time the duo have contributed original music to a scripted TV show, but they previously won an Academy Award for their score for ‘The Social Network’. (Who knew Trent Reznor had an Oscar?) The pair has also been recognized for their scores for ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Patriots Day’ as well as the PBS documentary series ‘The Vietnam War’. In addition, Nine Inch Nails songs have been included in countless TV episodes and movies, particularly “Closer” and “Hurt.” Created by Damon Lindelof (‘The Leftovers’, ‘Lost’), ‘Watchmen’ is based on the DC Comics graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, originally published 1986. In 2009, a film adaptation, directed by Zack Snyder was released. Lindelof’s HBO series appears to be set during a time following the events of the comic and movie, in which the world has narrowly avoided a global nuclear apocalypse.
