Delicate Inked Lines Form Fluffy Black Cats in Illustrations by Kamwei Fong
Using only black ink, Malaysian illustrator Kamwei Fong has created a menagerie of playful black cats. Despite their contextual isolation and uniform style, each of Fong’s cats display unique personalities: some are fluffed and puffed into self-contained balls; others look with curiosity or wariness at fish that dangle or waves that crash from the animals’ own tails. The artist builds each feline form using innumerable short thin lines, varying the density of the marks to create volume as well as a palpable sense of furriness. More
Braille Neue: A Universal Typeface by Kosuke Takahashi That Combines Braille and Visible Characters
Japanese designer Kosuke Takahashi has created an ingenious font that merges different typefaces to allow both sighted and blind readers to use the same text. Thinking ahead to Tokyo’s hosting of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, Takahashi shares on his website that he hopes his font will “create a truly universal space where anyone can access information.” Braille Neue is comprised of two typesets: Braille Neue Standard, for the English alphabet, and Braille Neue Outline, which accommodates both Japanese and English visible characters and letters. An Official Look at Nike’s Air Force 1 Low “Taiwan” 2018 Retro
After popping up last month at the Swoosh’s Makers of the Game event in Los Angeles during NBA All-Star Weekend, Nike’s 2018 retro of the Air Force 1 Low "Taiwan" has officially surfaced. A followup of sorts to the re-release of the Air Force 1 Low "Hong Kong" (which originally dropped back in 2001), the "Taiwan" drop largely echoes the look of its early-2000s predecessor. Here, the white patent leather shoes’ Swooshes once again come with mismatched gradients — predominately red on the lateral side, blue on the medial — and are complemented by icy outsoles, silvery embroidery at both the heels and base of the tongues, and red tongue branding badges with matching lining and insoles.
While there’s still no word on an official release date, a launch for 2018’s Air Force 1 Low "Taiwan" looks imminent.
